Update: After Losing Kosher Certification, Houston’s Genesis Steakhouse & Wine Bar To Close

The 12-year-old Meyerland, Houston, Texas steakhouse, known for its great steaks and wine bar which uniquely featured non mevushal wines is set to close on April 30, 2025 following tumultuous months and the loss of its kosher certification from the Houston Kashruth Association (HKA) in January, 2025 as noted here in this 1/29/25 piece on this site.

The loss of the HKA certification followed a January 20, 2025 site visit by Rabbi Nosson Dubin. Owner Jason Goldstein was unable to provide Rabbi Dubin a requested invoice for a package of fish found in the restaurant’s freezer. HKA revoked its certification the following day. Goldstein maintained that the fish was kosher and complained about the ensuing loss of catering contracts and scheduled events.

In the Facebook post, the restaurant wrote, “In light of the recent unanticipated events the situation has ultimately forced us to make this very difficult decision—one that many of you are already aware of. We had hoped for a quicker resolution, but at this time, closing our doors is the unfortunate path we must take.”
