Review: Dalton, M, Estate, Galilee, Rosé, 2024

Dalton Winery was founded in 1995 by Mat & Alex Haruni, a father-son team who realized the exceptional viticultural potential of the upper Galilee and were determined to pioneer a modern winery which could produce authentic, handcrafted wines with a distinctive Israeli flavor. Today, the head winemaker is the talented and charismatic Guy Eshel, who was born in Tel Aviv and grew up between California and Israel. Following an internship in Napa Valley, Guy pursued his winemaking passion and graduated from UC Davis in 2013.

Dalton maintains its beautiful and scenic estate winery in the upper Galilee and offers wines across the price spectrum, but all while maintaining excellent quality.

Additionally, Dalton offers many different styles of wines, including still red, whites, and rosés, Pét Nat, a truly special dessert wine named Anna, and Guy Eshel’s more experimental line of wines under the Asufa label.

Dalton, M, Estate, Galilee, Rosé, 2024

This rosé, a blend of Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon and
Barbera, is newly offered under the “M-Series” of mevushal wines, which make them more accessible at a variety of locations and events.

Winemaking Nerd Info:

The grapes were allowed to skin macerate for three hours following crush and before pressing, then cold-fermented for three weeks in order to maintain the varieties’ character. Fermentation was stopped by freezing to hold some of the wine’s natural sugar.

As noted in the video review, this wine is smartly closed with a screwcap vs. a cork. It is drink now wine, ideal for chilling and summer travel.

Tasting Notes:

Light salmon colored and bright. On the nose, excellent aromatics of fresh-picked strawberries, raspberries, grapefruit, tropical notes, and some floral. On the palate, crisp acidity, with a nice touch of sweetness to balance the acidity (this wine is not bone dry, but slightly off-dry), plenty of fresh, tart red fruit and citrus. Very nice wine.

$23, 12,5% ABV, mevushal
