A Night of Meat and Wine with Kenny Friedman

This is probably going to be surprising to our readers, but despite a long, long personal history with Kosher Food and Drink co-founder Kenny Friedman and his extremely close geographic location to my parents, I don’t actually see him in person very often. Thus, it was a real treat to watch him in action at the Chabad of Olney “Wine Tasting & BBQ” event in mid-August, where I was able to watch him in action with a presentation about wines and have a guided tasting.

The food – not made by me or Kenny – was tasty enough, and in good quantity. There was a range of hot dogs, roasted chicken, and steak, plus veggies and other sides. This was a fundraiser, and the cost of entry wasn’t very high, so I wasn’t expecting top-end fare. (That said, note to all event organizers: I prefer a good smoked brisket to steak every time.)

What was the big focus of the night was Kenny Friedman and his presentation about wine. I was really quite impressed with the way he professionally described the various wines he presented, as well as a solid description of the way that wines are evaluated. As I’ve noted in numerous restaurant reviews, I don’t really drink anymore, but I try to appreciate the art of wine tasting, which requires a lot of experience, practice, and a more refined palate.

Kenny’s not paying me for this post (and if he was, he’d demand his money back), but I definitely think that if you’re trying to have a classy event with some wine education involved, Kenny is the guy to talk to. It was a lovely evening that raised money for a good cause, and taught me a few things about wine, too!
