I had a friend visiting from out of town this weekend and with the beautiful weather it was a perfect time to explore some of what Charm City has to offer. Baltimore has long been known for its beer and quirky nature, so where better to start than one of the great local breweries?
We headed down Eastern Avenue, through Little Italy, past Patterson Park, taking in the colorful scenery and historic buildings, until we landed in Brewer’s Hill, home of Mobtown Brewery. One of Baltimore’s many nicknames is “Mobtown,” a moniker the city earned the hard way back in the 18th and 19th centuries, with a communal tendency to organize riots. Baltimore has always held its stouthearted reputation.

The taproom is roomy and airy, festooned with a variety of Baltimoricana and watched over by a house cat, Ernie, who makes himself quite at home.

There is no kitchen at Mobtown, though occasional food trucks anchor themselves there, so guests are allowed to bring their own eats (doubly great when one is kosher). A lively crowd was present today with a few (leashed) dogs joining the fun.
The on tap menu featured 18 interesting varieties so we decided to split some flights and ended up tasting 16 of the 18 plus one associated can.

Our server was awesome, knowledgeable, friendly, and energetic. I’d definitely return (with some kosher food!)
