Offering delicacies near and dear to our hearts here at Kosher Epicurean, exciting news out of New York City, as Lox at the Jewish Museum (1109 5th Ave at 92nd St, New York, NY 10128) in the Upper East Side opened on November 7, 2024.
Executive Chef David Teyf, a descendant of a family of matzo makers from Minsk in the early 20th century, is a veteran creator of classic Jewish eats, and is well-known for his charitable food endeavors in NYC among Holocaust survivors. Teyf was born in Minsk, Belarus, and came to America in 1979 when he was just five years old.

The menu at Lox at the Jewish Museum will specialize in cured and smoked salmon, similar to Teyf’s other restaurant, LOX at Café Bergson in the Museum of Jewish Heritage, which opened in 2016 (Edmond J. Safra Plaza, 36 Battery Place, New York, NY 10280)
Lox at the Jewish Museum is under OU Kosher certification, and while museum admission is not required for entry, the eatery will be open only during museum hours, excepting for Fridays and Saturdays.

Lox replaces what was the only kosher certified Russ & Daughters, which opened in 2016 and closed during the covid pandemic of 2020, announcing in 2022 it would not reopen.
According to The Jewish Museum, you can now “Enjoy updated takes on classic Jewish comfort food including chef-created sandwiches, salad, handcrafted bagels, pastries, blintzes, herring, and a variety of house-cured salmon during your visit.”
The menu, below, features Teyf’s house specialty of “Lox Five Ways,” including dill lox, grapefruit and gin lox, pastrami lox, double smoked lox, and sake ginger lox.
Lox at the Jewish Museum Hours:
Sunday: 11 am – 6 pm
Monday: 11 am – 6 pm
